The UK's oldest recorded shame-eating lantern ceremony

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the Fishponds Beast a success in 2026.  The Beast will return!  To be kept informed, please subscribe to the newsletter below

As evening falls, the local community gathers.  They have brought traditional pink Shame Lanterns as well as their most embarrassing memories from the year written on little slips of paper. The assembled community begin their song of mortification to draw the beast from its slumber. It emerges in search of delicious shame!

Led by lantern bearers, the beast lumbers out of the darkness.  At the Friends Of Eastville Park Hub, the beast becomes too distended with shame and regurgitates the slips onto the ceremonial fire pit, where the shame of all participants is destroyed for another year.
